Trifid Project - Trifid Project (2001)

Perhaps it's time to share some summer vibes, with the weather outside being so nice and today being the first of June. James Plotkin teams up with a few french fellows, namely Matthieu Maire of Celluloïd Mata, Sheila Mata and Marie & Yves Daubert.

The result is a catchy 22-minute disc of fluffy avantgarde electronica. Floating ambient soundscapes, crunchy beats, bleeps and bloops, unprocessed guitar strumming and female vocalisations.

Although I'm no expert on this kind of electronic experimentation, and I originally grabbed the release solely because of Plotkin, I found myself listening to this repeatedly. Especially the "spending the day at the beach, feeling the sand between your toes"-vibe had me smiling. Il fait du soleil. Ethereal, atmospheric and uplifting stuff.

The Sidewinder - Implant (1997)

Continuing the path laid out on the previous release, The Sidewinder bleep and bloop their way through seven tracks on this 12"EP. If you're interested in the originals, go check the Discogs.com marketplace, the full length and 12" are going dirt cheap!

The Sidewinder - Colonized (1996)

The Sidewinder was another Justin/Kevin Martin project of the mid-90s. Basically this was a Techno Animal side project, which released one LP, and a 12" EP on Justin's Lo Fibre label. Another track later surfaced on a compilation.

What we got here is distorted bleeps and bloops, droning beats and whipping synths. It should be no surprise that the "genre mafia" dubbed this as "industrial IDM" .. luckily we don't play along in their game of genres and tags, right?

Techno Animal - We can build you (Feat. EL-P & Vast Aire Kramer) (2001)

Feels almost celebratory, my last Techno Animal post for a while. A 12" promotional EP by Matador which was given out on Techno Animal's US tour. "We can build you" is the album version from "The brotherhood of the bomb". The aforementioned song is then mixed by Mr. Oizo. Edition of 1000 pieces. Enjoy!

Techno Animal vs. Reality (1998)

Released by City Slang in 1997, this puppy features five original songs and their remix counterparts. The third track, Deceleration, is one of the best tracks ever released by Techno Animal, but that's just my humble opinion. For more info, check here. Enjoy!

This limited Techno Animal 12" came out in April 1999 on Force Inc. It features two tracks, "Brotherhood of the bomb" and "Monolith". Giving credit where credit is due, I think I ran into this on the "Sickness Abounds"-blog quite a few moons ago, thank you!

Techno Animal - The Peel sessions 7.5.1998 (1998)

As most of you are aware, John Peel had a radio show on BBC1 called .. surprise surprise .. "The Peel sessions". During his lifetime over 4000 sessions were recorded by over 2000 artists. They usually featured four songs recorded over the course of one day, resulting in a rough and unfinished, demo-like feel .. this is one of those sessions.

The setlist is: "Demonoid", "King cobra", "Monomaniacal" and "Skulldriver".

Techno Animal - Radio Hades (1998)

This was released in the late September of 1998 on Position Chrome, and is basically a compilation of older, remixed and deconstructed, Techno Animal tracks. Ferocious industrial drum and bass, this is one bad mofo to handle. For more info, click here.
