Quoit - Lounge (1996)
Boys and girls, it's time to feel the love again. Just in time for the weekend, here's our dear Mick Harris unleashing one of the true masterpieces of drum and bass.
Don't worry, though. If you don't want positive vibes with your music, that's pretty much been stripped away here. Heavy drum and bass beats with isolationist soundscapes floating all around you. Very atmospheric!
The album features eight tracks, with a total running time of just under sixty minutes. Before you decide listen to this, heed a word of warning: The deep end on this album is HUGE. No kidding, the bass is somewhere really down and out there. Hope you enjoy!

Cable Regime - Kill lies all (1993)
Cable Regime were a band from the UK. They were active between 1988 and 1997 in the field of noise/industrial rock music. During their existence they released 3 albums, 2 EPs, a 12" single and were featured on various compilations.
The group featured Paul Neville (previously a member of Fall Of Because) on guitar and vocals, Diarmuid Dalton (member of Jesu) on bass and Steve Hough on second guitar (All three were also members of Godflesh at some point in time).
Cable Regime was called a "more melodic Godflesh"; There's a familiar recipe: the distorted and buzzing guitars, the monotonous bass lines and even the mandatory drum machine. During their active years, the group never got the recognition they deserved, and they somewhat unjustly stayed underground. The time has come to fix the injustice, here's five tracks of industrial rock played in a haze of forty something minutes. Hope you enjoy!

Con-Dom - Holy Bible (2007)
Although this would've been more fitting for Easter, blasphemous bible bashing is more than OK the entire year through. Mike Dando has been releasing his unique brand of power electronics under his Con-Dom-moniker since the early 80's. No topic is taboo and is always explored with uncompromising attitude. Always radical, always in your face.
This is the latest available Con-Dom studio material, originally intended to be released on Tesco Organisation, but was changed to Freak Animal.
Holy Bible features two tracks: Bible right I (Country, family, Great white God) and Bible right II (The Lord loves holocausts). With a combined running time of sixteen and some minutes, Mike steers away from his 'usual' walls of white noise and distorted screech. Instead we are offered an alternative approach to power electronics/industrial noise with a lot of background loops, shouted vocals layered on top .. this is the real deal here!
Enjoy the sounds, have a good weekend, and remember .. The bible's right!

Lull - Cold summer (1994)
Time for another plunge into the pool of isolationist ambient. Just in time for the weekend, it's Mick Harris turning the knobs through four tracks: 'Slow fall inward', 'Lonely shelter', 'Long way home' and 'Lost sanctum'.
Although the album is very minimalist in nature, it doesn't feel improvised at all; quite the contrary, I feel it's a very strongly structured piece of ambient landscapes. There is the same kind of dread which was present on Dreamt about dreaming, this time it just feels stronger. Close your eyes and take in every nook and cranny of this subterranean lullaby. Enjoy!

Godflesh - Pure (1992)
This is the band's second full length album, and the first Godflesh release to feature Robert Hampson of Loop on guitar (He is featured on four tracks: 'Spite', 'I wasn't born to follow', 'Predominance' and 'Don't bring me flowers').
Pure was clearly a transitional album for the band. They added more melodic elements into the mix, and reduced the gap between their heavy early days, and their later, at times almost groovy sound.
Whether this was too metal for the industrial crowd, and vice versa, is open for debate. The drum machine is still here, it's clear and more present than ever; the precise programming is again a key factor for the 'in your face'-feeling of the album. Although Broadrick's vocal style is transforming towards a more clearer and melodic output, there's still enough barking and snarling to satisfy the more metal part of the crowd.
The CD-version featured two additional tracks to the vinyl: 'Love, hate (Slugbaiting)' and 'Pure II'. The first three introductory minutes of Love, hate (Slugbaiting) are Fall Of Because live with Paul Neville on guitars. Pure II is a rather long piece of industrial ambience, twenty something minutes of droning feedback more reminiscent of Broadrick's other sound manipulation projects.
Only one questions remains to be answered: Where is Pure III? Hope you enjoy this classic release!

Mick Harris & Bill Laswell - Somnific flux (1995)
What happens when two very prolific musicians combine their views on ambient sounds? Somnific flux, that's what happens. Two mammoth tracks, both over 30 minutes in length, are featured on this album.
The first track, 'Distal sonority', is a gigantic wave of bleakness washing over your senses, time and time again, only to slowly consume everything in it's path.
The second track, 'Capacious', features a bit more movement and structure. There are some cleverly hidden scratching and clanging percussions in the constantly moving aural darkness; once you think you've gotten ahold of something, try again, it's already gone. Was it there in the first place? Is my mind playing tricks on me again?
Once again, I can only go ahead and recommend this warmly. After listening to this album, the silence floating in my flat was deafening. It seemed to take up all the space in the room, only to loosen it's firm grip on me after the last wash of noise had died from the speakers. The atmosphere is truely suffocating. Take a ride into a minimal and bleak soundscape, there's a lot to be discovered. Hope you enjoy!

Dead World - The machine (1993)
Dead World: part deux. Another very overlooked industrial metal album by Dead World: claustrophobic atmosphere, heavy guitars and a crisp production. Top it off with some frustrated social commentary and a drum machine and you've got 'The machine'.
If somebody has the tape version, and would be willing to rip the exclusive 'White lady of Avenel' in good quality, I'd be forever in debt. Meanwhile, enjoy this fine release!

Terminal Cheesecake - Angels in pigtails (1990)
Don't worry, it can't get much crazier than 'Angels in pigtails'. This is another colorful acid freakout of epic proportions; A riff-filled wall of psychedelic noise, Funkadelic beats over a chorus consisting of hand drills, the right amount of crunch and punch covered with those human howls and wails bouncing all over the place. It even features a cover by the Residents, Hello Skinny.
As on the original CD, there are 11 songs (the ninth track consists of three parts) crammed into one track with 43 minutes in length. Because I'm a decent bloke, I've even included my version of a cue sheet for your listening pleasure (Feel free to split the tunes into individual tracks for portable players). Hope you enjoy!

Terminal Cheesecake - Pearlesque kings of the Jewmost (1992)
Often called the "love child of Butthole Surfers and Godflesh", Terminal Cheesecake are really hard to pin down and describe. Most of the time they are bouncing all over the place: heavy and relentless bass, massive amount of reverb, plenty of drug references and accompanying samples.
So if you have no problems with the aforementioned drug slang, a freaky TV evangelist, late-night radio talk show-recordings, heavy use of the delay-effect and a healthy dose of that "industrial feel", I recommend you grab this now.
Before you dive headfirst into the sounds, I would also recommend smoking some of your favourite herb. It just might make the digestion of this monster a wee bit easier. Hope you enjoy!

Lull - Journey through underworlds (1993)
Time for another journey into the darker side of ambience. Lull's debut album, Dreamt about dreaming, was a oppressive ride into suffocating sounds and bleak imaginary landscapes. On this second full length, we now continue the descend into this weird underworld of sounds.
While there are only three tracks on this album, it is in no way a short listen. The running time exceeds 70 minutes, with the last track being over 45 minutes in length. So take the time to enjoy this netherworldly descend; I prefer to engulf myself in the sounds with some good headphones while lying in a dark room (preferably on a bed or a mattress). Hope you enjoy!

Lull - Moments (1998)
Here's one more Easter treat for you. Mick Harris presents us Moments: Rumoured to be inspired by the soundtrack to cult David Lynch movie Eraserhead, Harris gives us 99 individual tracks which, when listened sequentially form one smoothly flowing, though evolving and once again spooky, soundsphere.
The album really gets interesting once you listen to it on shuffle: you're thrown from one moment to another; from harsh to mellow, from pleasant to troubling. The randomization offers almost an infinite amount of ways the album can be percieved; each listen is a different one (My only gripe with this is the short, glitchy click before each segment).
Either way you decide to enjoy Moments, I hope you discover worthwhile things with the smooth flow of the big picture .. or the chopped up and rearranged chaos. Enjoy!

Lull - Dreamt about dreaming (1992)
Lull was conceived in late 1991 by former Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris (also active with ambient dub project Scorn). The idea behind Lull was the attempt to create sounds that would stretch the structures of conventional music; to develop and explore soundscapes without beats.
What we got on Dreamt about dreaming is a petrifying journey into dark ambient. Horror, fear and darkness are all key elements to Harris's sound. There is no warmth, only oppressive noise swirling all around the listener.
The whole album is reminiscent of a horror movie soundtrack; this time you just need to close your eyes and let the visuals play out in your mind. The keywords to the plot are paranoia and isolation. Enjoy!

Final - Solaris (1996)
The "moar Final, dude"-mails I have recieved have worked. Time for more ambience, then. Originally released on Alley Sweeper, I present you the 1998 reissue on Invisible Records with an additional 30-minute track entitled Dying star. Most of the material was recorded by Justin in the summer of 1995 (with G.C. Green featured on the second track, Light), except for Dying star which was recorded in late 1995, with additional help from Dermot Dalton. Final went for a very calm, minimal approach on this EP. It's almost soothing in a way. Hope you enjoy!

Deathpile - Gashbutcher (1996)
As we previously featured Jonathan Canady's project Dead World, this time the spotlight is turned on his power electronics output Deathpile. This is dark, disturbed and quite different compared to his later output; released on a 60-minute, limited to 100, tape. Most of the material is performed by Jonathan, except for some additional keyboards by Michael Todd. It even features a Intrinsic Action cover, namely Sado-electronics. Originally released on Chicago-based BloodLust!-label. Enjoy!

Godflesh - Slavestate (1991)
Two years after their breakthrough album Streetcleaner, Godflesh released a four song EP titled Slavestate. This ended up being released in three different formats: the four song EP, a three song remix EP and the nine song mini LP featured here. The thrive for a more electronic sound, which is almost "techno" at times, is what really divided people into two camps: disappointed haters and people who liked the album. Which one do you belong to? Hope you enjoy!
