Dopethrone - Demonsmoke (2009)

Luckily for Dopethrone this is no originality contest, they wouldn't score very high on that chart. But what they do here, is very good in it's own right. Hazy, weed-crazy riffing, a few samples here and there, the fat wall of sound, the muffled drums, bile-filled vocals, and oh yeah, did I mention that groovy, old-school riffing yet? Eight pretty short and varied songs on this disc, spanning a bit over 30 minutes. Hope they will keep going, this being their first release, they can improve and become quite a monolith in the future. Keep an eye out on their MySpace. For more album info, again, check here.

Eyehategod - 10 years of abuse (And still broke) (2001)

Be merry, here's more Eyehategod! Tonight's menu is served in three courses: 1) Four tracks from the 1990-demo "Lack of almost everything". These are noisy and full of feedback, a great appetizer! 2) Four songs on a live radio broadcast from 1994. 3) And seven brain-damaging songs from their European tour in 2000. I'll tell you once again, this is harsh, gritty and relentless music, no easy listening. For more info on the tracklist, check here.

Eyehategod - Preaching the "end-time" message (2005)

This album includes several rare and live recordings, as well as three brand-new tracks from 2005! So let's start off with a fair warning: the quality of the songs varies from track to track. Some songs work like a charm while some are more suited for the EHG completist. Because of the wide variety of material on this compilation (spanning over 10 years), the album may come off as chaotic and unorganized, hence I only recommend it to fanatics and completionists of the group. Eyehategod - Southern discomfort (2000)

"Southern discomfort" gathers together tracks from three hard-to-find 7" releases, plus a few tracks which were recorded during the '95 "Dopesick"-sessions. The title track is featured on "Confederacy of ruined lives" as a reworked version titled "Jack ass in the name of God". Amongst my favourite songs are "Story of the eye" and "Serving time in the middle of nowhere", two tracks which ironically don't appear on any of their studio albums. The big mammoth, the 16-minute "Dopesick jam", closes the album in a gigantic medley consisting of songs throughout the bands history. Read more about this album here.

Eyehategod - Confederacy of ruined lives (2000)

Bitter, angry, hopeless and alone: Eyehategod. This is a decent "comeback" album after a four-year recording hiatus and rumoured breakup. Give yourself up for ten tracks of purifying negativity, it only takes about 40 minutes to settle in properly. More info here.

Eyehategod - Dopesick (1996)

The pain of a heroin addict in musical form. These 12 bleak and heavy songs are in my opinion the best material these Lousiana sludgers ever caught on tape. If you want groovy music and raw emotion that's almost on the verge of collapse, do yourself a favour and grab this. For more album info, click here. Oh yeah, I seriously think there's a fight that abruptly ends the song on "Anxiety hangover", haha!

Eyehategod - Take as needed for pain (1993)

Is it just me, or is "Take as needed for pain" one of the best album titles .. ever? To continue our series of fucked up feedback, sludge metal and drug abuse, I give you the second full length by Eyehategod. This is drugged up and alcohol soaked sludge metal straight from New Orleans, you'd better submit to these 12 songs clocking in at 50 minutes. For more info, click here.

Eyehategod - In the name of suffering (1992)

This album is digusting. It is dark and hateful. It is angry. And these are good things.

I love this album, the feedback-drenched Sabbathean-riffs, the pained yowls and whelps of vocalist Mike Williams telling stories of drug abuse, self-hatred and depression. This is suffering wearing a ten inch strap-on, taking you forcefully, unlubricated and whispering filthy shit in your ear. This loverboy features 10 songs in 35 minutes, enjoy! Semtex - Pot secret (2009)

This is the Finnish alternative for Bongzilla, and damn, this is tasty and green sludge all the way! The EP features five gritty and groovy tracks, with a playing time of thirty and some minutes. I decided to post this one because of their upcoming concert at the "Psychotropic caravan II"-festival. Comes extremely recommended for those smoking sessions, remember to turn the bass up loud! For more info on the EP, click here.
