There are some pearls among female-fronted extreme metal, Thorr's Hammer being one of them. When the band pretty much consists of "Burning Witch"-members and is spiced up with some of the most gut-wrenching female vocals ever put on tape, you pretty much can't go wrong with this one. This is the Southern Lord CD-release, with the additional fourth track "Mellom galgene (Live)". More album info here.
The second album by Emil Brahe continues the road of desolation started on "Let there be a massacre". This time the lyrical themes have progressed towards the whole cosmos and its infinity, leaving the puny humankind behind. This should please everybody who liked the first release, a recommended download. For more album info, click here.
A great release combining funeral doom, death metal and even some martial passages into a oozing mass crawling forth from your speakers. The lyrical themes are about the inanity of man, so be prepared for a "not-so-happy" lyrical onslaught brought forth by the sole band member Emil Brahe. If dark lyrical themes and slow music is your thing, go ahead and grab this. Album info here.
Luckily for Dopethrone this is no originality contest, they wouldn't score very high on that chart. But what they do here, is very good in it's own right. Hazy, weed-crazy riffing, a few samples here and there, the fat wall of sound, the muffled drums, bile-filled vocals, and oh yeah, did I mention that groovy, old-school riffing yet? Eight pretty short and varied songs on this disc, spanning a bit over 30 minutes. Hope they will keep going, this being their first release, they can improve and become quite a monolith in the future. Keep an eye out on their MySpace. For more album info, again, check here.
